Hard work always pays off!  This is not only a fact but it's a principal that is lacking in our society today.  Now sometimes our work isn't always being paid at a fair rate, but that doesn't change the fact that hard work doesn't pay off in the long term.   As I think about this principal and try to implement it into our every day school work, I find that mastery of a subject doesn't come naturally, most of the time it requires repetition and relearning.  Application of the knowledge solidifies, but isn't itself the most efficient way of learning, though some things must be learned by trial and error (i.e. riding a bike).
As I look at my children and their learning styles, there is only one thing which will take them farther into life, and that's hard work.   The other day I had an opportunity to take my children to a job, and actually assign them tasks, they worked hard, they were good workers, and they also received a reward.  The carrot doesn't always lead the horse, but it makes the horse feel better about the journey, and motivation of a job shouldn't be the reward, but the learning process.
